Posted in Uncategorized by Abhishek Bhowmick on August 25, 2010

For all those out there trying to create .cab files and their office PCs do not allow you to download and install your favorite third party compression applications, here is an answer to it.

Microsoft Windows XP offers an in-built tool – Iexpress.exe which solves this hassle.  Simply click on your Start Menu > Run > type in Iexpress.exe and the wizard should launch.  You can create compressed cabinet files and installation packages using this Wizard.

Overcoming Three-state workflow limitation to send notification at the third state

Posted in Sharepoint by Abhishek Bhowmick on August 20, 2010

Three state workflows do not send email notifications when the chosen choice field changes to the third state. To overcome this we can have alerts subscribed based on views set for the SharePoint libraries.

To enable view based alerts, simply create a standard view and include atleast the chosen choice field column used in the three state workflow. Also filter out the view basis the chosen column name “is equals to” the third state name. That’s all, we’re done!

Now subscribe for alerts as normally you would do and select the view for which you would like to be notified. That simple!
